Mr Douglas Macnicol is the NCIS Research Manager. He works closely with NCIS staff to support and promote research at the Centre. His role involves advising academic staff on research-related policy, identifying opportunities for research funding, supporting funding applications and helping to manage contractual requirements for grants, contracts and consultancies.


Douglas Macnicol has been working in research management since 2006, beginning at the Canberra campus of the University of New South Wales. Prior to joining NCIS, he was Deputy Manager of the Research Office in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS).

In his previous life, Douglas was a freelance violinist and teacher of violin, viola and music theory. He still performs as a member of the gypsy jazz group, Lulu Swing.

Douglas has a B.A. in History and German Literature and an M.Mus from ANU as well as a performance diploma from Østlandets Musikkonservatorium in Oslo, Norway.
